The Transfiguration of the Lord in the monasteries of the Eastern American Diocese

On Tuesday, August 19, the Orthodox Church celebrates the great feast day of the Transfiguration of our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ. "The Lord transfigured before His chosen disciples - Peter, James, and John - so that he might fortifiy their faith in Him as the true God, and in His willful sufferings on the Cross for our salvation,  and so that through these three disciples he might make this faith the inheritance of His Church. At the same time, through his Transfiguration the Lord gave us an example for our own personal transfiguration, the achievement of which is necessary for our entry into His Kingdom" (Archbiship Nikon, Sermon on the Transfiguration, 1970).

We offer our visitors photographs from the feast day in the monasteries of the Eastern American Diocese. His Grace, Bishop George, led the festive divine services in Holy Cross Monastery, co-served by the brethren of the monastery and guests. In Holy Trinity Monastery, divine services were officiated by the abbot, Archimandrite Luke, co-served by monastery clergy. Present during the services was the Hawaiian myrrh-streaming Iverion icon of the Mother of God which streamed myrrh throughout the entire service. At the Dormition Convent in Novo-Diveevo, divine services were led by Mitred Archpriest Alexander Fedorowski, co-served by monastery clergy and in the presence of Abbess Irene and the sisters of the monastery.
