chesnokovlit.lg.jpg (30361 bytes)On Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of November, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, led the divine services in the Synodal Cathedral. His Eminence was co-served by Synodal clergy and clerics from neighboring parishes. During the services, the Synodal Bishops' Choir, augmented by guest singers from many places, as far away as Canada and California, sang pieces by the distinguished composer of Russian spiritual music and Director of the Moscow Synodal School Pavel Grigorievich Chesnokov, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of his repose. Seventy-five choristers from across the Church Abroad took part in the choir. During both days, biographical pamphlets on the life of P.G. Chesnokov were distributed to all in attendance. Upon completion of the Liturgy, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad awarded Synodal Choir Director Peter Alexeevich Fekula a Gramota thanking him for his many years of labor in Christ's Holy Church and for organizing the memorial services in honor of P.G. Chesnokov. A bountiful luncheon was then offered in the Synodal hall, where organizers and participants were thanked for the uplifting singing.
