Mahopac, NY: Bishop Peter of Cleveland visited the New Kursk Root Hermitage

mahopac.lg.JPG (83263 bytes)On Saturday, October 3, His Grace, Bishop Peter of Cleveland, visited the New Kursk Root Hermitage in Mahopac, NY, and the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God. Vladyka was accompanied by Subdeacon George Shatiloff, member of the Eastern American Diocesan Council. His Grace inspected the ongoing repairs being made to this holy place. Afterwards, Vladyka served a litiya in the cemetery, at the grave of Archbishop Seraphim (Ivanov), the founder of the monastery, and then proceeded to the chapel by the pond. Before everyone present, Fr. Ilya Gun caught five fish and grilled them especially for Vladyka. His Grace then blessed the parishioners' continued work in restoring the church building and beautifying the grounds.
