Brooklyn, NY: The Kursk Root Icon visited New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia Church

On Sunday, January 3, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY. The icon was brought to the church by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, and was greeted by the parish clergy: Priest Paul Ivanov, Deacon Vladimir Oliynyk, and Deacon Petr Utkin. A great multitude of people gathered in the church, and a moleben with akathist was served. After the akathist, Fr. Serge delivered a touching sermon on the importance of approaching the Heavenly Queen with a penitent heart and the sincere desire to change one’s life. Fr. Serge then presented a copy of the Kursk Root Icon to the parish on behalf of the First Hierarch and the Diocesan Council. The faithful then venerated the icon over the course of several hours, while the clergy served the vespers and compline with the canon of the forefeast. The icon was then taken to the Church of Our Lady "the Inexhaustible Chalice", also in Brooklyn.
