Glen Cove, NY: A Dual Joy in the Holy Virgin Protection Church

gc.lg.jpg (42893 bytes)This week, parishioners of Holy Virgin Protection and St. Sergius Church in Glen Cove, NY, received a dual joy. On Sunday, January 10, His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, visited the parish and celebrated the Divine Liturgy. His Grace was co-served by rector Priest Alexandre Antchoutine and Deacon Dimitri Temidis, before a large gathering of the faithful. After the Liturgy, the parish’s Nativity Yolka and a presentation by the parochial school were held in the parish center.

On Wednesday evening, the eve of the feast of the Lord’s Circumcision, the wonder-working Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived at the church for the All-Night Vigil. During the polyeleos, an akathist was served before the miraculous icon. The next morning, on the very day of the feast, the rector celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by Deacon Eugene Kallaur (St. Seraphim of Sarov Church, Sea Cliff, NY). The Liturgy was adorned with the singing of a male quartet, led by Synodal choir director P.A. Fekula. Also present at the Liturgy was Archpriest Serafim Gan, personal secretary of the First Hierarch. After the Liturgy a moleben was served before the wonder-working icon, at which point the icon left for the neighboring parish of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Sea Cliff.
