Jackson, NJ: The Kursk
Root Icon visited St. Vladimir Memorial Church

On Saturday, January 2, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God left Jersey City and arrived at St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ. The icon was greeted by the faithful, then an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos was served immediately. After the akathist, the All-Night Vigil was served, led by Archpriest Philip Petrovsky. Fr. Philip was co-served by Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Priest Serge Ledkovsky, and Deacon Leonid Roschko. On behalf of the First Hierarch of ROCOR and in memory of the bringing of the wonder-working icon to Jackson, Fr. Serge presented copies of the icon to Priest Serge Ledkovsky and St. Vladimir Church, as well as to Archpriest Philip Petrovsky and the Holy Virgin Protection English Mission. After the Vigil, Fr. Serge Ledkovsky took the holy icon into the lower Protection church and blessed the tombs of Archbishops Vitaly (Maximenko) and Nikon (Rklitsky). This moment was especially touching, because that very day the icon had visited after many years to Vladyka Vitaly’s former cathedra in Jersey City, after which it returned to visit Vladyka himself. The photomontage was then presented in the parish hall.
