Sea Cliff, NY: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Seraphim of Sarov Church

sc2.lg.jpg (67677 bytes)On Thursday the 14th and Friday the 15th of January, 2010, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Seraphim of Sarov Church in Sea Cliff, NY, and was present for the divine services in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov, the church’s lesser parish feast day. On the eve of the feast the clergy served the Matins, after which a Nativity reception for parishioners was held in the rectory. The following morning, rector Archpriest Serafim Gan celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by Archpriest Zoran Radovic (rector of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Elizabeth, NJ), Protodeacon Paul Wolkow, and Deacon Eugene Kallaur. During the Divine Liturgy, clergy especially commemorated the eldest cleric of our diocese, Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov, who on this day and in this church was ordained to the priesthood by Metropolitan Philaret in 1967. After the Liturgy, a moleben was served before the wonder-working icon; taking part was Archpriest George Kallaur (rector of the Church of the Mother of God "Unexpected Joy" on Staten Island, NY). A luncheon was then served in the parish hall to mark the feast.
