The First Week of Great Lent at Holy Cross Monastery

On the first week of Great Lent, the full cycle of services was served at Holy Cross Monastery. The Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts was served on Wednesday and Friday, celebrated by the abbot, His Grace, Bishop George, co-served by the monastery clergy. On Friday evening, His Grace tonsured novice Alexander to the rasaphor under the name John (after St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco). On Sunday, February 21, on the feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, a Hierarchal Liturgy was served, after which Vladyka led the Rite of Orthodoxy.
