Atlanta, GA: The
Kursk Root Icon visited Our Lady Joy of All Who Sorrow Church

On Saturday, February 6, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of Our Lady, Joy of all who Sorrow, in Atlanta, GA. The wonder-working icon was greeted in procession by the parishioners and rector, Archpriest Alexis Duncan. The Liturgy for the Departed then began, celebrated by the rector. At the end of Liturgy, diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov greeted Fr. Alexis on behalf of the First Hierarch of ROCOR, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, presenting him with a copy of the Kursk Icon. After the Liturgy, the photomontage of the Kursk Root Icon’s return to Russia was shown in the parish hall. Before the icon’s departure, Fr. Alexis carried the wonder-working image up the hill next to the church, blessing the ground there, where parishioners hope that, with God’s help, construction will soon begin on a new church.
