Bradenton, FL: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Mark Church

On Tuesday, February 2, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of St. Mark the Apostle and Evangelist (OCA) in Bradenton, FL. Under the sound of pealing bells, the rector and parishioners greeted the icon in the old Russian style with bread and salt. The singing of the moleben with akathist began immediately, led by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, co-served by rector Priest John Chudik and Priest Konstantine Mendrinos (cleric of St. Barbara Greek Church in Sarasota, FL). It is interesting to note that the moleben was the first moleben served in the recently constructed church. Upon completion of the moleben, Fr. Serge greeted the parishioners and presented the rector with a copy of the Kursk Icon – a blessing from the First Hierarch of ROCOR, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion. The photomontage of the icon’s visit to Russia was then shown in church.
