Manhattan, NY: The Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" completed its travels through the Eastern American Diocese

fnl.lg.jpg (41250 bytes)On Monday, February 8, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign," the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora, completed its travels through the Eastern American Diocese. Flying into New York from Atlanta, diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov and those accompanying him made haste to the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign, where the icon was greeted by the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion. Receiving a blessing from Vladyka, Fr. Serge sincerely thanked His Eminence for the great grace bestowed on him – the chance to travel with this marvelous icon for two months, thereby bringing joy and hope to thousands of the faithful across the diocese. His Eminence was presented with a written report on the travels of the Kursk Icon throughout the diocese. Vladyka sincerely thanked the travelers, noting also what a rare grace was present in the Synod, having present both the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora and the honorable head of St. John Chrysostom (visiting the Synodal Cathedral from Moscow in order to spiritually fortify Orthodox Christians living abroad). Venerating once more the wonder-working icon and the head of St. John, the travelers returned home, sorry to part ways with the wonder-working icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, but nevertheless overjoyed at that great grace bestowed on all of us by the Queen of heaven and earth.

O Most Holy Theotokos, save us!
