Lakewood, NJ: The feast of the 40 martyrs of Sebaste in St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

40mar.lg.jpg (40857 bytes)On Monday, March 22, the feast of the 40 martyrs of Sebaste, the clergy and parishioners of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Lakewood, NJ marked the saint’s day of the dean of the New Jersey Deanery and cathedral rector Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov, elder cleric of the Eastern American Diocese. The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts was led by Fr. Valery, co-served by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Priest Leonid Goferman (rector of Holy Virgin Protection Church in New Brunswick, NJ), Priest Seraphim Chemodakov (cathedral cleric), Priest Vadim Arefiev (rector of the Church of Our Lady the "Inexhaustible Chalice" in Brooklyn, NY), and Deacon Nathan Mousselli (cathedral cleric). Also praying in church during the Liturgy was Archpriest Philip Petrovsky, Archdeacon Eugene Burbelo, and Protodeacon Nicholas Lukianov. Upon completion of the service, a moleben was served, after which Fr. Serge greeted Fr. Valery on behalf of the First Hierarch and the Diocesan Council. Fr. Seraphim greeted Fr. Valery on behalf of the cathedral’s parishioners. A bountiful luncheon was then served in the lower hall of the cathedral, during which Fr. Valery shared some of his memories about his spiritual mentors and his service in the Holy Land as the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission.
