An Announcement from the Diocesan Office on the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Repose of Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko)

Sunday, March 21 will mark the 50th anniversary of the repose of the ever-memorable Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko), formerly of Eastern America and Jersey City. Prior to his departure for the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, indicated that all rectors of the Eastern American Diocese be requested to commemorate the ever-memorable Archbishop Vitaly during the Great Entrance and perform a litiya at the end of the Liturgy on Sunday, March 21. Vladyka Vitaly was one of the most distinguished hierarchs of the Church Abroad, as well as the founder of Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville. Readers can familiarize themselves with the life of Vladyka Vitaly by reading Deacon Andrei Psarev’s presentation on his life, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Archbishop Vitaly’s repose. His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, will celebrate the Divine Liturgy and serve a panihida on the day itself at the tomb of Archbishop Vitaly in the lower Protection of the Mother of God Church at St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ. May the Lord God grant rest to His faithful servant, the ever-memorable Archbishop Vitaly, where the righteous repose, and through his holy prayers have mercy on us all.
