Jacmel, Haiti: Patronal feast day of St. Augustine’s Parish

haiti.lg.jpg (40632 bytes)On Monday, June 28th, the Parish of Blessed Augustine in Jacmel, Haiti, celebrated its patronal feast day. The services were led by Priest Jean Chenier-Dumais and Priest Gregoire Legouté, with many parishioners in attendance. After the Liturgy, the clergy baptized over 50 men, women and children. Some of the adults were baptized in the ocean. Truly this was a day for rejoicing, since the parish in Jacmel, in the south of Haiti, has suffered along with the rest of Haiti from the earthquake in Port-au-Prince of January 12, 2010.

The Parish of St. Augustine was greatly affected by the actions of schismatics, who seized the church and school buildings. Through the Lord’s mercy, the parish is continuing to grow exponentially, despite all the temptations sent from the evil one.

The best way to support our brothers and sisters in Christ is through official contribution programs at the Fund for Assistance for the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad and the newly established Haitian Orthodox Family Relief program which provides a means for sending much-needed monthly funds to a poor Orthodox family in Haiti for the period of one year. Both sites can be contacted through the Eastern American Diocesan website. Please take a moment to visit the new program at www.haitiorthodoxfamilyrelief.com.
