cali.lg.jpg (36454 bytes)With the blessing of His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, on Sunday, August 22, the Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God visited Holy Trinity Church in California, PA. The Divine Liturgy was led by parish rector Archpriest Stephan Romanchak, co-served by Priest Dionysi Vitali (rector of St. Basil the Great Church in Belle Vernon, PA).

Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Stephan delivered a sermon on the history of the Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God.

The following day, Fr. Stephan, accompanied by Subdeacon Nathaniel Sorochka and novice Matthew (resident of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville), took the holy icon to a local Catholic hospital in order to visit ailing parishioners there. The Icon was greeted with especial reverence by the Catholic nuns and sisters of mercy.

From the hospital, the Icon was taken to Holy Cross Monastery, where it usually resides in the main monastery church.
