South Canaan, PA: The Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Tikhon’s Monastery

stns.lg.jpg (37260 bytes)The Wonder-Working Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Tikhon’s Monastery on Friday, August 13, on the day of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk (n.s.). With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, the icon was accompanied by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov.

The icon was brought to the monastery on the eve of the feast, where it was greeted by the rector, Igumen Sergius (Bowyer), the brethren of the monastery, and a multitude of clergy and faithful. Over 200 pilgrims arrived for the feast. The festal Vigil and Liturgy was led by His Grace Tikhon, Bishop of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania, co-served by six priests and three deacons. Some thirty clergymen partook of the Holy Mysteries.
