Wayne, WV: Bishop George performed the tonsure of two monks in Holy Cross Monastery

On Sunday, August 1, on the eve of the feast of the Prophet Elijah, His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, led the All-Night Vigil in the main church of Holy Cross Monastery. Bishop George was co-served by the monastery clergy.

Upon completion of the All-Night Vigil, His Grace performed the monastic tonsure of two of the monastery’s residents, Rassaphor Monks Boris (Provatakis) and Marc (Dade). Monk Boris received the name Nikon, in honor of St. Nikon of Optina, and Monk Marc received the name Tikhon, in honor of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk.

Upon completion of the rite of tonsure, Bishop George spoke a few words of fatherly instruction to the two newly tonsured monks.
