svots.lg.jpg (38044 bytes)As reported by the official site of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, on Saturday, October 2, with the blessing of His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York, His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, took part in Orthodox Education Day, an annual holiday held at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. The festivities began with a moleben and akathist in the seminary’s Three Hierarchs’ Chapel before a copy of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God (the icon usually resides in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville). The service was officiated by the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America, His Beatitude Jonah, Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada, co-served by clerics of the OCA, the Moscow Patriarchate, and the Russian Church Abroad. In his sermon, Metropolitan Jonah spoke of the importance of Orthodox Christian unity.

Representing the Moscow Patriarchate at the event was Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov, cleric of St. Nicholas Cathedral in New York, representative of the World Russian People’s Council at the UN.

As a part of Orthodox Education Day, book stands were set up across St. Vladimir Seminary grounds, church and lay music concerts were held, and representatives of various American Orthodox communities treated everyone to their jurisdiction’s ethnic foods.
