Framingham, MA: St. John of Shanghai Parish’s Annual Benefit Concert

frmghm.lg.jpg (62889 bytes)On Sunday, November 14, parishioners of St. John of Shanghai Church in Framingham, MA held their annual Benefit Concert. This year, the concert was dedicated to the memory of the ever-memorable Matushka Elizabeth Olhovsky.

The concert was preceded by a "open-door day." Parish friends and guests prayed at the Sunday Liturgy, where rector Priest Vadim Pismenny was co-served by Hieromonk Roman (Krassovsky) of Holy Trinity Monastery. Everyone was then invited to a luncheon prepared by the parish sisterhood, where they were able to meet and talk with the clerics and parishioners. After the luncheon, everyone headed over to the concert hall.

Fr. Roman ran the concert. The program consisted of three parts: classical, liturgical, and folk music pieces. The concert’s crown jewel was the performance by the Boston Russian Chorus & Festival Singers, under the direction of conductor Irene Shachneva. The multifaceted, complicated repertoire and consummate professionalism of the performers easily won the respect of the concert audience.

All donations and proceeds from the concert were committed to a special fund for the construction of a new church.
