Huntingon, WV: The Kursk Root Icon visited Holy Spirit Church

On Wednesday, December 22, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God departed Kentucky and arrived in West Virginia, visiting Holy Spirit Antiochian Church in Huntington. After the triumphal greeting of the icon, parish rector Archpriest John Dixon led a paraklesis before the holy image, co-served by Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Abbot Seraphim (Voepel; deputy abbot of Holy Cross Monastery), and Priest Mark Elliott (rector of St. George’s Greek Church in Huntington).

After the service, a lenten luncheon was served in the parish hall, during which a photomontage of the wonderworking icon’s return to Russia in 2009 was presented. After the montage, the icon visited neighboring St. George’s Greek Church (Huntington, WV), where it was greeted by the rector, Fr. Mark, who served a short moleben before the icon.
