Wayne, WV: The Celebration of the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in Holy Cross Monastery

On Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th of August, on the great feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop George of Mayfield, led the divine services in Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV. His Grace was co-served by deputy rector Abbot Seraphim (Voepel), Priest John Oliver (rector of St. Elizabeth the New Martyr Church in Murfreesboro, TN), and monastery clerics. After the Prayer before the Ambo, His Grace blessed grapes and fruit, including grapes from the monastery’s own vineyard.

In keeping with monastery tradition, every year on the feast of the Transfiguration, the monks perform a procession to a mountaintop on the monastery’s property, which the monastics call "Mount Tabor." After the festal, fraternal luncheon, the monks and pilgrims ascended Mt. Tabor, where the deputy abbot served a moleben to Our Savior Jesus Christ, Transfigured on Mt. Tabor, prayerfully commemorating all those present and all Orthodox Christians.
