Atlanta, GA: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Mary of Egypt Church

On Tuesday, February 15, on the Great Feast of the Meeting of Our Lord, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Mary of Egypt Church in Atlanta, GA. Parish rector Archpriest John Townsend celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, who was accompanying the Icon, and parish clerics Archpriest Steven Ritter and Priest Alexander Lisnichuk. After the Gospel reading, Fr. John delivered a beautiful sermon about the great feast. The faithful communed from three chalices.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a short moleben was served before the wonderworking Icon, after which Fr. Serge spoke to those in attendance about the travels and wonders of the holy Icon, and then presented the rector with an icon of the Mother of God of the Sign – a blessing from His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad. After the service, a bountiful luncheon was served in the parish hall.
