Paramus, NJ: Bishop Michael of New York served a moleben before the Kursk Root Icon in Christ the Saviour Church

On Thursday, February 3, His Grace Michael, Bishop of New York and New Jersey (OCA), served a moleben and akathist before the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God in Christ the Saviour Church in Paramus, NJ. His Grace was co-served by the chancellor of the NY & NJ Diocese of the OCA Archpriest Joseph Lickwar, Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, New Jersey Dean (OCA) Archpriest Samuel Kedala, parish rector Archpriest David Vernak, and a multitude of local clergy.

After the moleben, Bishop Michael addressed worshipers with an archpastoral homily. Fr. Joseph then congratulated His Grace on the 38th anniversary of his ordination to the diaconate (celebrated on that day), and Fr. Serge presented him with a copy of the Kursk Root Icon on behalf of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion. After the service, a bountiful dinner was then offered in the parish hall, during which a photomontage of the Icon’s return to Russia in 2009 was presented.
