Lakewood, NJ: The Kursk
Root Icon visited St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

On Saturday evening, January 1, on the eve of the Sunday of the Holy Fathers and the feast of St. John of Kronstadt, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Lakewood, NJ, for the All-Night Vigil with akathist. The service was led by cathedral rector Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov, co-served by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Priest Jonah Campbell (cleric of St. George’s Church in Howell, NJ), Priest Sergio Silva (cathedral cleric), Protodeacon Nicholas Lukianov (cathedral cleric), Deacon Leonid Roschko (cleric of St. George’s Church), and Deacon Nathan Mousselli (cathedral cleric).

After the akathist, Fr. Valery delivered a sermon on our common heavenly Mother – the Most Holy Theotokos. On behalf of ROCOR’s First Hierarch, Fr. Serge greeted the rector and all of the parishioners, congratulating them on the portentous occasion of the wonderworking image’s visit to Lakewood. Everyone present was given a copy of the Kursk Root Icon, as a blessing from Metropolitan Hilarion.
