Mayfield, PA: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. John the Baptist Cathedral

On Sunday, January 30, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA. Cathedral dean Archpriest John Sorochka served Matins and celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, who was accompanying the Icon, Protodeacon Stephen Howanitz (cleric of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery in South Canaan, PA), and Protodeacon Gregory Petrochko (parish cleric).

Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Serge spoke to the gathered faithful on the history, wonders, and travels of the wonderworking icon, and presented the rector a copy of the Kursk Root Icon with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion. Later that afternoon, parishioners bade the wonderworking Icon farewell as it departed to New Jersey.
