Chicago, IL: The Hierarchs of the Eastern American Diocese are taking part in the Episcopal Assembly of North & Central America

On Wednesday, May 25, the second plenary session of the Episcopal Assembly of North & Central America began in Chicago, IL, under the chairmanship of the head of the Greek Archdiocese in America, His Eminence Demetrios, Archbishop of America.

Representing the Eastern American Diocese are the First Hierarch of ROCOR, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, Bishop George of Mayfield, and Bishop Jerome of Manhattan. The delegation from the Russian Orthodox Church also comprises: Archbishop Alipy of Chicago and Middle America, Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, Bishop John of Caracas and South America, Bishop Peter of Cleveland, and Bishop Theodosius of Seattle.

In his opening remarks, Archbishop Demetrios noted the previous day’s historical concelebration of the Hierarchs of the Orthodox Church in America and the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the news of which he welcomed with joy. "This will strength the Unity of Christ’s Holy Church on the American Continent," emphasized the Constantinopolitan hierarch. The news was met by the Episcopal Assembly’s participants with applause. According to the official website of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and the Assembly’s Second Vice Chairman, then addressed gathered Hierarchs.

The Assembly will be in session until May 27.
