New York, NY: Metropolitan Hilarion gave his blessing for "Project Kellia"

On Monday, October 17, the First Hierarch of ROCOR, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, met with in his private residence with a delegation from the Association of Orthodox Christian Professionals, led by Association President Igor K. Popov. The Association represents a group of Orthodox professionals and bussinesses, who provide free assistance to those in need. The Association's mission is to create an active, professional, and intellectual forum with the ultimate goal of uniting Orthodox Christians and advancing humanitarian projects within the Orthodox Church.

At the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion blessed the Association to begin "Project Kellia," the goal of which is to raise funds for the construction of ten cells ("kellias") for monks at Holy Cross Monastery in West Virginia. The Association plans to afford local parishes and individuals an opportunity to sponsor the monastic residences, which will include commemorative plaques with the names of the donors.

Holy Cross Monastery is one of the largest and fastest growing monasteries in the Diocese. A number of men are without permanent housing in the monastery, and several more are asking to enter the monastery in the next year, but the monastery cannot accept these novices due to a lack of vacant cells. The Association of Orthodox Christian Professionals plans to collaborate with the Eastern American Diocese to acquaint members of the Diocese with the organization’s work, as well as with the new fundraiser for "Project Kellia." His Emminence appointed Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov as the Association’s primary liaison.
