East Setauket, NY: On the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, Bishop Jerome led the patronal feast day of the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross

On Tuesday, September 27, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, paid an archpastoral visit to the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross in East Setauket, NY for their patronal feast day of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. At the end of Matins, Bishop Jerome tonsured longtime parishioners Thomas Wolfe, John Willard, and Ellias Ballard as readers, and then celebrated the Divine Liturgy.

His Grace was co-served by Archimandrite Maximos (Weimar), Abbot of the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross and by Archimandrite (John Erikson; cleric of the Brotherhood). Also serving were Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis (cleric of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY) and Hierodeacon Michael (Wells; cleric of The Brotherhood of the Holy Cross). The choir, led by Hierodeacon Parthenios (Miller), sang joyously and beautifully in a mixture of English, Slavonic, and Greek, enabling all present to fully participate in the services. After the reading of the Gospel, Bishop Jerome delivered a stirring sermon on the meaning of the Cross and how it applies to us. At the end of the Liturgy, Bishop Jerome performed the Rite of the Exaltation of the Cross.

After the services Bishop Jerome joined the Brotherhood for a bountiful lunch prepared by the ladies of the parish.
