Washington, DC: Bishop Jerome led the Patronal Feast Day of St. John the Baptist Cathedral on the Feast of the Beheading of St. John

On Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th of September, on the feast of the Beheading of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, visited the American capital and led the divine services in St. John the Baptist Cathedral on the occasion of the patronal feast day.

In the presence of a multitude of the faithful, His Grace was co-served by cathedral rector Archpriest Victor Potapov and parish clergy: Archpriest Vasiliy Raskovskiy, Priest John Johnson, Priest Alexander Resnikoff, Protodeacon Leonid Mickle, Deacon Damian Dantinne, Deacon John Dean, and Deacon Victor Klimenko, as well as Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis (cleric of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY) and Deacon Michael Bishop (cleric of Holy Trinity Church in Baltimore, MD).

Two choirs sang – the Slavonic choir, under the direction of Youri A. Petcherkin, and the English choir, under the direction of Jared Brewer. Almost all of the worshipers approach Holy Communion from three chalices.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a procession was held around the church. A Litiya was then served for the repose of parish’s founders and parishioners, all those warriors who had laid down their lives on the field of battle for Faith and Fatherland, and all those killed in the September 11, 2011 attacks.
