Jordanville, NY: Metropolitan Hilarion led the Funeral of Archpriest Laurence Girard

On Tuesday, January 17, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, prayed at the monastic Midnight Office and Divine Liturgy in the main cathedral of Holy Trinity Monastery. After the Liturgy, His Eminence led the funeral of the newly departed Archpriest Laurence Girard.

The First Hierarch was co-served by monastery abbot Archimandrite Luke (Murianka), Archimandrite Anthony (Falsarella; cleric of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese), diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Archpriest Andre Papkov (senior priest of Holy Protection Cathedral in Chicago, IL), Archpriest George Lardas (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Stratford, CT), Archpriest Michael Crowley (rector of St. Xenia’s Church in Methuen, MA), Priest Seraphim Wing (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Edinboro, PA), Protodeacon Victor Lochmatow (monastery cleric), and Deacon Alexander Doohovskoy (cleric of St. Xenia’s Church.

In his eulogy, Fr. Andre Papkov spoke of Fr. Laurence’s life and legacy, and of his zeal and sincere love for the divine services and Holy Communion.

After the funeral, the priests, along with Fr. Laurence’s children and grandchildren, carried the coffin around the cathedral, and then to the monastery cemetery, where the burial was held. Relatives and friends of the departed held a memorial repast in the seminary hall for all those present.

The editors of the official website of the Eastern American Diocese express their sincerest condolences to Matushka Marina Girard and all of the relatives of the departed, asking that everyone please keep the newly reposed in their prayers, especially in the first 40 days after his passing.
