New York City: On the Sunday of the Holy Fathers, Metropolitan Hilarion led the Divine Services in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign

On January 1, the Sunday of the Holy Fathers, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. At the divine services, His Eminence was co-served by the Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission, Archimandrite Tikhon (Amelchenya), the cathedral’s senior priest Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Hieromonk Nicholas (Perekrestov; cathedral cleric), Priest Alexandre Antchoutine (rector of the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Glen Cove, NY), Protodeacon Nicholas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric), and Deacon Alexei Oulanov (cleric of the Church of the Intercession).

The Synodal choir sang triumphally and marvelously under the direction of Peter A. Fekula. During the Sixth Hour, Metropolitan Hilarion tonsured the servant of God Roman Gultyaev a reader, and then ordained him a subdeacon. During the Liturgy, Metropolitan Hilarion ordained Deacon Alexei a priest, and Subdeacon Roman a deacon. The newly ordained Fr. Alexei will continue his service at the Chruch of the Intercession to which he is assigned, and will also assist the New York City dean, Archpriest Alexei Ohotin, at the Church of the Annunciation in Flushing, Queens. Deacon Roman will fulfill his service in the Holy Land.

Upon conclusion of the Divine Liturgy and his sermon, the First Hierarch invited the clergy to a luncheon in honor of Frs. Alexei and Roman. After the luncheon, His Eminence spoke privately in the office with the newly ordained, offering them some final instruction.
