Mayfield, PA: Bishop George led the Patronal Feast Day of St. John the Baptist Cathedral

On Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of July, on the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Forerunner, St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA celebrated its patronal feast day. That evening saw the greeting of the Bishop – His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese, Abbot of Holy Cross Monastery, and cathedral rector.

His Grace was co-served at the All-Night Vigil by cathedral dean Archpriest John Sorochka, who was celebrating his namesday, and Archpriest Vladimir Fetcho (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Olyphant, PA).

The following morning, the Bishop was greeted before the main entrance to the cathedral, after which the festal Liturgy began. Bishop George was co-served by Fr. John, Archpriest David Hritcko (rector of St. Basil the Great Church in Simpson, PA), Archpriest Basil Micek (rector of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Scranton, PA), Fr. Vladimir, Archpriest Elias Krenitsky (retired cleric of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Old Forge, PA), Archpriest Michael Lepa (cleric of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery in South Canaan, PA), Abbot German (Ciuba; rector of St. Stephen’s Church in Old Forge, PA), Archpriest Petre Kruashvili (rector of St. Grigol of Khandzta Church in Somerville, NJ), and parish protodeacons Stephen Howanetz and Gregory Petrochko. Also praying in church was Archpriest Alexander Atty (dean of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a short moleben was served to the Holy Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist of the Lord John. After the service, everyone proceeded across the street, where a bountiful lenten luncheon was provided in the parish hall.
