Brooklyn, NY: The Rite of Holy Unction was served in the Church of the Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia

On Sunday, March 18, local clergy performed the rite of Holy Unction in the Church of the Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia in Brooklyn, NY. The sacrament was led by Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, co-served by rector Archpriest Victor Tseshkovsky, Archpriest Alexander Donchenko (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Poughkeepsie, NY), Hieromonk Eutychius (Dovganyuk), Priest Vadim Pismenny (cleric of the Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Mahopac, NY), Priest Michael Vladimirov (cleric of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City), Priest Dmitri Don (cleric of Sts. Cosmas & Damian Church in Passaic, NJ), Protodeacon Nicholas Olhovsky (cleric of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville), Deacon Leonid Roschko (cleric of St. George’s Church in Howell, NJ), and parish deacon Vladimir Oliynyk and Petr Utkin. Also praying in Church was ROCOR cleric Priest Ilya Gun.

The sacrament was administered in the presence of two great holy icons: the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, and the myrrh-streaming icon of the Mother of God "Softener of Evil Hearts."

A multitude of the faithful gathered for the unction service from across New York City. Everyone listened attentively and reverently to the seven Gospel readings and seven Epistle readings, as well as to the touching prayers and canon that penetrate the human heart and summon feelings of true repentance. Everyone present was then anointed with the holy oil.
