East Setauket, NY: The Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross

On Friday, March 16, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Brotherhood of the Holy Cross in East Setauket, NY. The brethren, led by Archimandrite Maximos (Weimar) received the holy Icon and served an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos before it. Over 120 of the faithful gathered to pray at the akathist.

In the words of parishioner Marusya Dorfman, the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora was greeted with trepidation and joy.

"Many were stunned that it was this Icon that healed St. Seraphim. After the service, many remained in the church, not wishing to leave the Icon’s grace-filled presence. When the faithful sang the prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos, it was as though Pascha had arrived!"

After everyone venerated the Icon, Fr. Maximos carried the Icon around the monastery, blessing the grounds. The Icon was then taken to the main hall, where several Greek parishioners sang the Icon’s troparion and various hymns to the Mother of God in Greek.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Icon’s guardian, Protodeacon Nicholas Olhovsky, returned the wonderworking image to the Synod.
