New York: A local celebration of the 5th Anniversary of the Reunification will take place on May 16-17

On Thursday, May 17, our Church will celebrate the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Act of Canonical Communion between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian Church Abroad. This monumental anniversary will be celebrated throughout 2012, in Russian Orthodox dioceses throughout the world. The main celebration in the Eastern American Diocese will take place on October 11-13 in Nyack, NY, during a joint pastoral conference of Diocesan and Patriarchal clergy.

With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, and the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, His Eminence, Archbishop Justinian, a local celebration of the 5th anniversary will take place in New York on May 16-17.

On Wednesday, May 16, at 12:30 PM in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, Archbishop Justinian, co-served by Vicar Bishops George and Jerome, along with clergy of the MP and ROCOR, will served a panihida for the ever-memorable Most Holy Patriarch Alexey II and Metropolitan Laurus.

On Thursday, May 17, as 10:00 AM in St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City, the archpastors, co-served by a gathering of MP and ROCOR clergy, will celebrated the Divine Liturgy. After the service, a festal luncheon will be held in the cathedral hall.

All of the clergy and faithful of the Eastern American Diocese are invited to attend and participate in these solemn services. In connection with this upcoming celebration, Bishop Jerome of Manhattan issued the following statement:

"The upcoming local celebration in Jordanville and New York City is a testament to the unity that exists between the hierarchs and clergy of our Diocese and the Moscow Patriarchate. Every time our clergy gather in prayer, we ourselves become witnesses to the Paschal joy that radiated from Moscow on May 17, 2007. By gathering at the tomb of our beloved Metropolitan Laurus, we will have the opportunity to thank both him and His Holiness, Patriarch Alexey, in our prayers, for boldly guiding the Church on the difficult path toward unity. I encourage all of our clergy to make every effort to attend these joyous services, so that we offer up thanksgiving to the Lord with ‘one mouth and one heart.’"
