Nyack, NY: Bishop Jerome celebrated the Liturgy in Holy Virgin Protection Church

On Sunday, May 6, the feast day of the holy great-martyr and trophy-bearer George, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Jerome of Manhattan led the divine services at Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY. Bishop Jerome carried out the archpastoral visit in honor of the namesday of rector Archpriest George Larin, Dean of the New England Deanery.

His Grace was co-served by the parish rector, parish cleric Archpriest Ilya Gorsky, parish Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis, Protodeacon Vadim Gan (cleric of the Mid-American Diocese), Deacon Nathan Mousselli (cleric of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign), and Deacon George Temidis (cleric of the Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Mahopac, NY). During the Sixth Hour, Bishop Jerome awarded several parish altar servers the right to wear the orarion.

In his sermon, His Grace spoke on the kontakion to St. George, "God raised you as his own:"

"In the kontakion we hear that that a Christian life must be likened to a fertile field; Satan places obstacles in our path, attempting to paralyze our spiritual life and arraying our parishioners against one another," said Bishop Jerome. "Following the example of the Great-Martyr George, we must try to bring forth a more bountiful harvest in the field of Christ’s Church."

In the parish hall, owing to the efforts of the parish sisterhood, a luncheon was offered in honor of the rector and namesday celebrants.
