New York City: A Presentation of Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov’s) book "Everyday Saints" was held at the Russian Consulate

 

On Monday, October 15, the General Consul of the Russian Federation in New York City, I.L. Golubovsky, held a reception in honor of Moscow’s Sretensky Monastery Choir and its superior, Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov). The monastery choir is currently in the middle of concert tour throughout the U.S., dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the restoration of canonical unity within the Local Russian Church.

 

Taking part in the event were Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Metropolitan Pavel of Ryazan and Mikhailovsk, who is visiting the U.S. with the blessing of His Holiness, Patriarch Kyrill, to participate in the anniversary celebrations, Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, clergy of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and ROCOR, Archpriest Leonid Kishkovsky, Director of External Affairs & Interchurch Relations for the Orthodox Church in America, representatives of various social and cultural organizations, representatives of Russian and American media, representatives of the Youth Department of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, as well as parishioners of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City.

 

The event began with a performance by the Sretenky Choir, under the direction of Nikon Zhila. The choir performed both spiritual and secular pieces.

 

There followed a word by Archimandrite Tikhon, who spoke about his book, "‘Everyday Saints’ and Other Stories," after which he took questions from those gathered.

 

Reception attendees then had an opportunity to informally interact with one another over dinner and refreshments.
