Howell, NJ: Bishop George led the Divine Services in St. George’s Church on the Feast of the New Martyrs

On Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of February, on the Sunday of the Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop George of Mayfield, paid an archpastoral visit to Howell, NJ, and led the divine services in St. George’s Church.

Having arrived in the Unites States from Russia after taking part in the Holy Council of Bishops in Moscow, His Grace, accompanied by Hieromonk Alexander (Frizzell; dean of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV), had originally planned to visit Holy New Martyrs Church in Norwich, CT, in order to head the patronal feast day. However, a blizzard forced the parish to cancel services, and Bishop George remained in New Jersey before returning to Holy Cross Monastery.

His Grace prayed at the All-Night Vigil, and during Polyeleos anointed worshippers with holy oil. The following morning, Bishop George celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by parish rector Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Fr. Alexander, and parish clerics: Priest Boris Slootsky, Protodeacon Leonid Roschko, and Deacon Michael Wengrin. Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Serge greeted the Hierarch, and asked His Grace to share news from the Council.
