Flushing, NY: Archpriest Alexey Ohotin Reposed in the Lord

On Friday, January 18, Archpriest Alexey Ohotin (rector of Holy Annunciation Church in Flushing, NY) reposed in the Lord after a difficult battle with cancer.

Born in Yugoslavia in 1933, Fr. Alexey was the son of Peter F. Ohotin and Militsa M. Khostik. After immigrating to America, Alexey enrolled in Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY, and received his education under the spiritual guidance of the abbot – Archbihop Vitaliy Maximenko. He graduated in 1958. In 1960, he married and the same year was ordained to the diaconate by Archbishop Averky (Taushev), and later to the priesthood by Metropolian Anastassy (Gribanovsky).

In his 52 years of service to the Eastern American Diocese, Fr. Alexey served as the rector of parishes in Richmond Hill and Jackson Heights, NY. In 1970, he was assigned rector of Holy Annunciation Church in Flushing, NY, where he served as the rector until his repose. He worked for many years as the chairman of the Diocesan Spiritual Court, and after retiring in 2009, remained an honorary member in his capacity as an advisor. He was also the dean of the New York City deanery and the spiritual councelor of the National Association of Russian Explorers (camp NORR). In 2010, during the celebration of his 50th anniversary of service, he was awarded the second pectoral cross by Metropolitan Hilarion.

His matushka and children are all active members of the Church. One of his sons, Deacon Serge, is a cleric of Holy Trinity Church in Vineland, NJ, while his son Nicholas works as a legal consultant for the ROCOR Synod of Bishops. His eldest daughter Ellen was the choir conductor at Holy Annunciation Church for several decades, while his other daughter Nina is matushka to Priest Alexandre Antchoutine (rector of Holy Virgin Intercession Church in Glen Cove, NY, and member of the Diocesan Council).

Saturday, January 19 – Panihida at 5:30 PM

Sunday, January 20 – Panihida at 6:00 PM

Monday, January 21 – Liturgy at 9:00 AM sharp, followed by funeral at 11:00 AM

All services will be held at Holy Annunciation Church in Flushing. The burial will be held at Novo-Diveevo Cemetery in Nanuet, NY, and the memorial repast will be held at Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY.
