Columbia, SC: Hierarch Visit to St. Elizabeth’s parish

From Friday the 11th to Monday the 14th of October, His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, performed an Archpastoral visit to Columbia, SC, and led the divine services in St. Elizabeth the New-Martyr Church.

The Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese led the All-Night Vigil on Saturday evening and Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning, followed by the festal Vigil on Sunday night in honor of the feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. His Grace was co-served at all of the services by parish rector Archpriest Mark Mancuso, parish Deacon Columba Wilson, and Deacon Jeremiah Davis (cleric of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV, accompanying the bishop).

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday morning. After the Liturgy, Bishop George addressed the faithful with a sermon on the meaning of the feast and the special protection given unto us by the Mother of God. For the first time in his life, His Grace then visited the local State Fair, where the appearance of Orthodox clergy became the subject of widespread interest among local attendees.
