Wayne, WV: Bishop George led the Patronal Feast Day of Holy Cross Monastery

On Friday, September 27, on the great feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, the brethren of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV marked their patronal feast day. The divine services were served in the open air by the abbot, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop George of Mayfield. On the eve of the feast, His Grace served the All-Night Vigil with the bringing out o the Cross, after which he performed the Rite of the Exaltation of the Cross.

The following morning, Bishop George celebrated the Divine Liturgy. His Grace was co-served by the habitation’s deputy abbot, Abbot Seraphim (Voepel), monastery clergy, Priest Jonah Campbell (rector of Christ the Savior Church in Wayne), Priest Gabriel Weller (cleric of Holy Myrrhbearers Church in Harrisonburg, VA), Priest Steven Webb (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Fletcher, NC), and Priest Matthew Penney (cleric of the Canadian Diocese). Also praying in church was Archpriest Alexander Atty (cleric of the Antiochian Archdiocese). During the Little Entrance, in accordance with the resolution of the ROCOR Synod of Bishops, Holy Cross Monastery dean Hieromonk Alexander (Frizzell) was awarded the palitsa.

Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th of September will mark the annual pilgrimage in honor of the feast of the Exaltation. The presence of the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Icon of the Mother of God is expected. With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, the divine services will be led by His Grace Peter, Bishop of Cleveland, Administrator of the Mid-American Diocese.
