Brooklyn, NY: Faithful of Brooklyn Gather in Holy New Martyrs Church for Sacrament of Unction

On March 30, the Sunday of St. John Climacus, the Sacrament of Holy Unction was performed in Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY. The Unction service was led by parish rector Archpriest Serge Lukianov, co-served by Archpriest Alexander Belya (dean of New York City), Archpriest Boris Oparin (rector of St. Joasaph of Belgorod Church in Brooklyn), parish cleric Archpriest Petr Kunitsky, Archpriest Boris Slootsky (cleric of St. George’s Church in Howell, NJ), Archpriest John Legeza (Ukranian Orthodox Church MP), parish cleric Priest Konstantin Gavrilkin, and Protodeacon Leonid Roschko (cleric of St. George’s Church).

A multitude of the faithful from the parishes of Brooklyn and greater New York gathered for the service, which was prayerfully sung by the parish choir. The subdeacon read the seven Epistle readings. All those who came to pray at the special Lenten service were anointed with holy oil. Upon completion of Unction, Fr. Serge thanked the Brooklyn clergy for their participation in the sacrament, and asked instructed the faithful to partake of Christ’s Holy Mysteries at Liturgy at their earliest opportunity.
