Miami, FL: Rite of Holy Unction served in St. Matrona of Moscow Church

On Sunday, March 23, the Sunday of the Cross, the Rite of Holy Unction was served in St. Matrona of Moscow Church in Miami, FL. The sacrament was led by parish rector and Florida dean Archimandrite Alexander (Belya), co-served by clergy from Florida’s various Orthodox jurisdictions: Archpriest Romanos Galben (Greek Archdiocese) and Priest Silvius Sfera (Romanian Church), as well as Archpriest Serghei Prisacaru (Moldovan Church (MP)) and Priest Barnabas Eugene (Greek Archdiocese) of Haiti.

At this special service, which according to Orthodox tradition is performed during the days of Great Lent, the clergy read seven readings from the Gospel and Epistles, while the choir offered their prayerful singing. The faithful taking part in the sacrament were anointed with holy oil for the healing of spiritual and physical ailments, and the forgiveness of any forgotten sins.

Upon completion of Holy Unction, Fr. Alexander thanked his brother clergy for making time to come to the church and co-serve the touching lenten service; he likewise wished the faithful salvation, love, and spiritual peace, calling on them to commune of Christ’s Holy Mysteries at the soonest Divine Liturgy.
