Mayfield, PA: Parishioners of St. John’s Cathedral hold Annual Paska & Kolach Sale

On Thursday the 10th and Friday the 11th of April, St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA held its Annual Paska Bread & Kolach Sale at the church center. Thanks to the dedication and labors of love of parishioners, Mike Bochnovich, Phil Bochnovich, Randy Horhutz, Steve Shust, Mark Suchnick, Sandy Suey, Joe Terpak, Diane & Jerry Truman, Ellen Zeshonski, and the sales staff of Millie Fife, Martha Gasper, and Pauline Kuzima, the two-day sale was a huge success.

It has become an area tradition for cathedral dean Archpriest John Sorochka and his loyal parishioners to provide the delicious homemade paska breads to parishioners as well as other customers who come from near and far to purchase the bread. The bread is shipped all over the country, but loyal customers travel from Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and across Pennsylvania to purchase the them for their families to enjoy. As one customer stated this year, "Easter wouldn’t be Easter without St. John's paskas".

Fr. John and his crew baked over 800 of the delicious raisin and white paska breads this year. Sold along with the paska breads were over 300 nut, poppy seed, lekvar, and apricot kolachi. The process takes an entire week, but it is worth all of the hard work to see the faces of the customers as they walk into the church center to purchase their bread and kolachi.

Fr. John and his parishioners have been providing paskas and kolachi for over 40 years. They all say it is a labor of love, and well worth their efforts.
