Project Tikhvin Prepares 2014 Trip to Russia

Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Project Tikhvin trip to Russia. The Project has been blessed by His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, and serves the youth of the Russian Church Abroad. Every summer, for nearly two weeks, the Project takes a small group of young people from Russia and abroad to work in the restoration of the 16th century Cathedral of the Entrance of the Mother of God in the ancient city of Tikhvin. The work is sponsored by the Brotherhood of. Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg and is blessed by His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan Vladimir of St. Petersburg & Ladoga. The local bishop of Tikhvin and Lodeynoye Pole, His Grace Mstislav, has encouraged the youth to participate and has expressed his earnest desire to see the Church Abroad’s delegation this summer.

While in Russia, young people attend the monastery feast of St. Anthony of Dyma, where his relics are carried to his holy lake, and also participate in the feast of the Mother of God of Tikhvin, where many pilgrims pray and attend the divine services. Many pilgrimages are arranged for the participating young people and several social activities are planned. In addition to the stay in Tikhvin, the group will spend several days in St. Petersburg visiting the holy places and cultural sites of Russia’s second capital.

Applicants should be 18 years of age or older and have valid passports. Saturday, March 15th is the deadline for a commitment. Each participant must pay a $1,200.00 fee; all other expenses will be paid by donations. This opportunity to travel to Russia for a greatly reduced rate will be limited to 15 people. To inquire, please see the Project’s website at www.projecttikhvin.com or send an e-mail to the Project’s director, Archpriest Alexis Duncan at fr.alexis.duncan@gmail.com.
