Recollections of Jerusalem Holy Trinity Publications Releases New Memoir by Anya Derrick

"If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten."
- Psalm 136:5

On Tuesday, July 1, the publishing house of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY released its latest title. Recollections of Jerusalem (ISBN: 9780884653592) offers the personal memoirs of Anya Berezina Derrick, parishioner and former head sister of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Seattle, WA.

"This is a very different book from the memoirs and histories we’ve published in the past," said Deacon Peter Markevich of Holy Trinity Publications. "In it, we follow a simple refugee’s fascinating journey through the tumultuous 20th century – from her childhood in the Holy Land to married life in America and eventually a return to her ancestral Russian homeland."

From the publishing house’s "About the Book" section:

Forced by historical circumstance to live in Jerusalem, "Anya Berezina was raised in the spirit of Holy Russia, manifested in the life of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission, the Mount of Olives convent, the Gethsemane Convent, and the Bethany School. Her spiritual life was nurtured by St. John (Maximovitch) of Shanghai & San Francisco, Archbishop Antony (Sinkevich) of Los Angeles, Archpriest George (Grabbe), Mother Mary (Robinson), and in particular the English Hieromonk Lazarus (Moore). Through Anya’s eyes, we gain new perspectives on their lives and ministries.

"…These recollections offer a window into the struggles and aspirations of the Russian Diaspora after the Communist takeover of their homeland and show how events such as the Bolshevik Revolution, the Russian Civil War, and the Arab-Israeli conflict have shaped present realities."

Recollections of Jerusalem retails at $21.95 and is available in both print and digital form. Individuals may order it from any good bookstore or online retailer.
