Mayfield, PA: Metropolitan Hilarion Performs Diaconal Ordination on Patronal Feast of St. John the Baptist Cathedral

On Sunday the 6th and Monday the 7th of July, the feast day of the Nativity of the Holy & Glorious Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist of the Lord John, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, performed an Archpastoral visit to Mayfield, PA and led the patronal feast day of St. John the Baptist Cathedral. The divine services were held in the presence of the myrrh-streaming icon of the Holy & Righteous St. Anna, mother of the Most Holy Theotokos.

On the eve of the feast, the evening service was performed by cathedral clergy, led by cathedral dean Archpriest John Sorochka. The following morning, the greeting of the icon of St. Anna was held, after which the clergy triumphally greeted Metropolitan Hilarion, escorting him to the cathedral in procession. The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by cathedral and visiting clergy.

During the Little Entrance, for his diligent and prolific service to the Holy Church, His Eminence awarded cathedral cleric Archpriest Claude Vinyard the right to wear the miter. After the Eucharistic Canon, the Metropolitan ordained longtime Subdeacon Dimitri Krenitsky to the diaconate. The newly ordained Deacon Dimitri will fulfill his service in Holy Trinity Church in Vineland, NJ.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a short moleben was served to St. John the Baptist, followed by a procession around the church.

After his sermon, Metropolitan Hilarion greeted the parishioners on the occasion of their patronal feast, and congratulated Fr. John with his namesday. The Protodeacon intoned the Polychronion, especially for Deacon Dimitri and his family. Memory Eternal was also sung for the newly reposed Most Blessed Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and the servant of God Alexander Burriack, who died unexpectedly the evening prior of a heart attack at age 55.

A bountiful festal luncheon was served for the clergy, parishioners, and guests in the parish hall, during which the faithful expressed many words of congratulation to Fr. Dimitri, Matushka Ourania, and their daughters and relatives.
