Nanuet, NY: Funeral for Archpriest Gleb Wleskoff served at Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo"

On Thursday, May 15, the funeral and burial of one of the senior-most clerics of the Eastern American Diocese, Archpriest Gleb Wleskoff, were served at Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY. The funeral, held in the convent’s St. Seraphim Church, where Fr. Gleb served for over 40 years, was led by His Grace, Bishop Jerome, co-served by diocesan clergy: Archpriest Alexander Fedorowski (senior cleric of the convent), Archpriest George Larin (rector of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY), Archpriest Serge Lukianov (Eastern American Diocesan secretary), Archpriest Ilya Gorsky (cleric of Holy Protection Church in Nyack), Archpriest Boris Slootsky (cleric of St. George’s Church in Howell, NJ), Priest Dmitri Don (rector of Sts. Cosmas & Damian Church in Passaic, NJ), Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky (convent cleric), and Protodeacon Alexander Revyuk (cleric of the Western American Diocese). Gathering to bid Fr. Gleb a final farewell were his relatives, loved ones, and spiritual children.

Addressing those gathered, Bishop Jerome noted, that Fr. Gleb "is departing this path of this life on his saint’s day – the feast of the Translation of the relics of the Holy Passion-Bearers Boris and Gleb. On this day, we translate the relics of the newly departed Father-Archpriest, who served the Holy Church for so many years, preaching the true God. If the people close to him will continue to stand firm in the Faith, then this will be a great comfort to him in the life to come."

Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov relayed to Matushka Ludmilla, Fr. Alexander and the sisters of the convent, the relatives, loved ones, and spiritual children of the departed the sincere condolences of His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad – currently performing an Archpastoral visit to the Diocese of Australia & New Zealand ‒ Archbishop Justinian, Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal & Canada, and Bishop George of Mayfield.

Fr. Serge recalled how the future Fr. Gleb began serving as an altar boy in Holy Trinity Church in Astoria, Queens, were Fr. Serge’s grandfather – the ever-memorable Archpriest Peter Motcharsky – was rector. "My brother and I also served in that church, and ‘Uncle Gleb’ taught us how to serve, how to love the Lord God. We were shocked at what a humble, patience, and tender man he was… We asked Fr. Alexander what he could say about Fr. Gleb, and Fr. Alexander wonderfully said that, in the course of all these years, they never fought once. These words are a sermon all to themselves. Fr. Gleb was a man who had peace in his heart, and he passed along this peace to everyone who approached him. For more than forty years, he stood before God’s Altar with his head bowed and with burning prayer for all in his heart."

Fr. Gleb Wleskoff was buried in the convent cemetery near the church.

Memory eternal to the newly departed Archpriest Gleb!
