Jacmel, Haiti: Volunteers in Mission (VIM) plans Mission Trip in January 2015

With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, a team of volunteers will travel to Jacmel, Haiti from January 18-26, 2015, to do work for the Orthodox mission there. The Metropolitan will also visit Jacmel at the same time as volunteers. The construction will be supervised by Alexander Gertsovitch, a skilled carpenter. Skills are helpful – but not necessary – to join in this effort.

The approximate cost for the trip is $1,100.00, which includes airfare from Fort Lauderdale to Port-au-Prince, ground transportation, meals while in Haiti, and accommodations. Volunteers will need to arrive in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, January 17, so that the entire group can fly together to Port-au-Prince on Sunday, January 18. Due to the difficulty of ground transportation, the group cannot arrive in Port-au-Prince at different times and cannot leave at different times.

Since space is limited, those interested should fill out an application and return it to Archpriest John Moses as soon as possible. VIM need secure seats on the airline before they are sold out.

This will be a meaningful and life-changing event. Volunteers are asked to inform their church and family that they wish to go, and with God’s help, they will help to support the endeavor. VIM can use all of the extra money that volunteers can generate for the mission. Prospective volunteers are encouraged to reach out to Fr. John for a slideshow of pictures that can be used to promote the trip.

Once a volunteer applies, Fr. John will send him or her a packet of information, which will include addresses and necessary phone numbers.

Rectors are asked to distribute these brochures with information about the trip to their parishioners.
