Jordanville, NY: Visit of Ukrainian Orthodox Church Primate to U.S. Begins

On Saturday, July 18, the feast day of Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Most Blessed Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev & All Ukraine, celebrated Divine Liturgy in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY. His Beatitude was co-served by the Firth Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, and a number of hierarchs and ROCOR clergy.

The Primate of the UOC is being accompanying on his travels by His Grace Eusebius, Bishop of Khotin, vicar of the Diocese of Chernovtsy & Bukovina.

Upon completion of the service, His Beatitude served a memorial litiya at the grave of Metropolitan Laurus (Skurla; +2008), fifth First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad. Metropolitan Laurus repose on March 16, 2008, at 80 years of age. As metropolitan, his primary legacy remains the Reunification of the Church Abroad with the Moscow Patriarchate.

In memory of his visit to Holy Trinity Monastery, Archimandrite Luke (Murianka; monastery abbot) presented Metropolitan Onufry the white klobuk that had belonged to Metropolitan Laurus. In turn, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presented the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad with a jubilee panagia commemorating the 1000th anniversary of the repose of the Holy Equal-of-the-Apostles Great Prince Vladimir.
